The nonlinear video editing course was introduced 4 years back in July 2006.

All the CRAFT’s faculty members are academically qualified and have an excellent industry experience. We also have many visiting faculty members who are also currently working in Production Houses and news channels as Chief editors and compositors who will help you learn film and video editing.
All of our film editing program staff members are academically qualified and have an excellent industry experience. Most of our Visiting faculty are currently working in well known production houses, recognized animation studios, or working in the film industry.

3. How many Digital Video editing courses does craft offer?

CRAFT has a wide range of specific courses catering to television, film, and other mass media industries. We offer digital video editing courses for graduates and post graduates who want to make their career in editing. Other than the regular full time course we also offer weekend film editing courses for people who want to learn film editing while working in the industry. We also offer distant learning digital video editing program that is more focused on basic editing concepts.

4. How many students do you take in the digital video editing program?

We have only 10 seats in our digital video editing course. We don’t believe in teaching masses, our aim is to teach that small group of students to make sure they know their teachers and batch mates, resulting in each student getting equal attention.

5. Does it make a difference if I choose to do a part time film editing course instead of a full time course from an film editing college?

It is essential to do a full time or part time digital video editing course to enter the field, and ofcourse a full time nonlinear video editing course has more weight-age and can increase your rate of career growth. Having done a proper film editing training is essential as it teaches you not only film editing softwares but also the editing aesthetics that help in developing an editing sense.

6. Is it compulsory to do a Film editing course to get a job?

If you have been part of any of the non linear editing diploma courses, your rate of career growth will be much higher than any person who has not got proper film editing training. 8. Do I need to do an internship to get my Non Linear Editing diploma certificates?

Internship is essential to complete your digital video editing programs. We are a film editing school that provides its students with their film editing training certificate only after they do internship. If you join craft and are serious about a film editing career, we can promise you internship offers, but its upto you to convert it in a job offer.

10. What type of job placement assistance does Craft offer after graduation?

Informally, we do assist students by providing job leads, workshops on portfolio development, resumes, etc. Formally like other film editing colleges we have a formal job placement assistance for the online avid non linear editing course but we can’t promise you jobs but can help with internships to students who are willing to work hard, converting them into job offers is upto you.

Depending on the specialization and size of project, work must include all or some of these tasks:
The work process of a video editor includes:
• The receiving of a brief, and perhaps a outline of footage sequences and / or a script or screenplay or storyboard;
• assembly of all the raw video footage, with shots recorded or transferred to videotape for the preparation of dumping onto the computer;
• dump uncut rushes and sound, synchronize and store the files on your computer;
• digitally cutting the files to determine the sequence of the film and what is useful;
• Making a rough cut film and determining the exact cutting for the next steps of final edit;
re-organize and adjust the content to ensure the logical and proper functioning of the film / video.

Additional work activities may include:
• monitor the quality and progress of audio and vision engineering and editing;
• consult with the director, producer or customers in the entire post-production;
• become familiar with the style of specific directors:

• experimentation with styles and techniques, including the design of graphics;
• Selecting the most effective shot for a scene in terms of drama, relevance to the story or continuity;
• Writing Voiceovers and commentary.

The final stage requires the ability of the online editor, to act as a post-production specialist. Responsible for delivering final film according to the specifications, the role of online editor is focused on technical aspects such as correction of bad shots, color correction, and adding of special effects to the film or program. In the low budget film an editor has to do both the offline and online editing. Usually editors use avid video editing systems or FCP editing systems to edit. Thus, an editor must be familiar with both these non-linear editing systems.

13. Does it matter if I don’t attend a formal film editing class?

Not attending a formal film editing class or joining film editing programs means your career growth will be very slow as compared to an editor who has had a formal training in FCP or avid non linear editing softwares. So entering the industry without doing any course in editing not only harms your progress map in the industry, but it also makes your entry and survival more difficult as you are not fully prepared to enter the industry.
